CCC EXPOSES DESPERATE FAKE LETTER SCHEME AS ZANU PF INTENSIFIES DIRTY TACTICS
Zimbabwe’s political terrain has once again been rocked by a wave of disinformation—this time in the form of a fake letter circulating on social media, fraudulently attributed to Songezo Tshabangu. The letter falsely claims that the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has recalled several of its Members of Parliament and councillors. In swift response, the CCC has categorically disowned the document, labelling it a shameless ploy by enemies of democracy to destabilise the opposition and confuse the public.
In a strongly worded statement, CCC spokesperson Gift Ostallos Siziba described the letter as nothing more than a desperate political hoax orchestrated by Tshabangu, a known associate of the defunct MDC-T and People’s Democratic Party (PDP), with alleged backing from the shadowy Forever Associates Zimbabwe (FAZ) and state security elements from the Central Intelligence Organization (CIO). The CCC insists that Tshabangu has never been part of their movement and lacks any authority to issue such declarations.
“The public is advised to treat these documents with the contempt they deserve. The CCC has not recalled any of its elected representatives and has no plans to do so,” Siziba affirmed. “This is a clear attempt to sow confusion and undermine the will of the people as expressed in the 2023 elections.”
This episode surfaces shortly after the CCC boycotted Emmerson Mnangagwa’s state-of-the-nation address in Parliament—a move that seems to have infuriated the ruling establishment. The party believes this boycott triggered the latest wave of attacks, including this botched recall scandal.
According to Siziba, Tshabangu is being used as a pawn in a broader ZANU PF scheme to disrupt the CCC’s operations and legitimacy, especially after its successful showing in the last election. Tshabangu, who made headlines for fronting fake CCC double candidates in Bulawayo and Matebeleland North during the last election, is now accused of trying to sabotage the opposition’s momentum through misinformation and fraudulent claims.
The CCC has taken legal steps to hold those responsible accountable, making it clear that it will not tolerate political sabotage. “This tactic is part of a broader agenda to punish the CCC for winning the confidence of the people and rejecting ZANU PF’s illegitimate rule,” said Siziba.
The party also reaffirmed its commitment to its representatives, urging them to stay focused and continue delivering on the mandate given to them by the electorate. “No amount of propaganda or fake documents will reverse the people’s will. Our MPs and councillors remain in office, and they will continue serving the citizens who voted for them,” said Siziba.
Interestingly, Songezo Tshabangu has remained silent amidst the chaos, choosing not to confirm or deny his role in the controversy. But for many political watchers, his continued association with anti-opposition plots only cements suspicions that he is acting as a willing agent in ZANU PF’s dirty tricks campaign.
This latest scandal comes against the backdrop of a wider misinformation drive aimed at undermining the CCC’s credibility. The use of rogue actors, fake documents, and manipulated narratives reflects a regime increasingly threatened by the growing influence and unity within the CCC.
The opposition party has called on Zimbabweans to stay vigilant and reject such distractions. It has also urged the media and civil society to expose and condemn state-sponsored misinformation campaigns designed to reverse democratic gains.
As the political contestation in Zimbabwe intensifies, the CCC’s ability to withstand such attacks and stay focused on its reform agenda will be a true test of resilience. But one thing is certain—the days of opposition politics being undermined by fake recalls, CIO proxies, and social media misinformation are numbered.
With its eyes firmly set on democratic transformation and electoral accountability, the CCC remains resolute. The latest smear campaign has failed. The people are watching. The struggle continues.
