ZIMBABWE’S JUDICIARY IS UNDER THREAT AND IT MUST BE CLEANED UP NOW

In Zimbabwe today, the courts are under serious threat. While some judges are skilled and honest, others got their jobs through dishonest and secretive ways. This is a big danger to justice and democracy. When people who are not qualified become judges, the whole legal system begins to fall apart.
In any democracy, judges play a very big role. They are not just people in black robes. They are meant to protect human rights, explain the law, and make sure everyone is treated fairly. A judge should be a strong voice of reason and truth in a country. But in Zimbabwe, that voice is being silenced by corruption, favoritism, and political interference.
Many of the people who are now judges in Zimbabwe did not pass their interviews. They were not smart enough, or skilled enough. But they still found their way into these powerful jobs. How? Through connections, nepotism, and political rewards. This shows that in Zimbabwe, merit means nothing. It is not about what you know or how good you are. It is about who you know.
The result is that the people of Zimbabwe are losing trust in the courts. If a judge is not qualified, how can anyone expect a fair trial? How can anyone believe in justice when the person in charge of making decisions is not even supposed to be there? It becomes very clear to the public that the system is rigged.
This is more than just a problem of appearances. It has real effects. Unqualified judges make bad decisions. They don’t understand the law. They misread it, or twist it to help the people who gave them power. They fail to protect the rights of citizens. They make rulings that are biased, political, and often unjust.
Zimbabwe’s laws must grow and change with time. But if the people in charge of applying the law do not understand it, then the law becomes useless. The country cannot move forward when mediocrity sits on the bench. This is not just a legal problem—it’s a national disaster.
Some of these judges are even being accused of corruption and unpaid debts. This makes things worse. It shows that some of the people who are supposed to be fighting corruption are deep inside it. It proves that justice is for sale, and the highest bidder gets the outcome they want.
The solution is clear: Zimbabwe must reform the judiciary now. Judges should be chosen through a strict and transparent process. Every candidate must go through fair vetting, and anyone with political links or corruption issues must be removed. There must be zero tolerance for incompetence and dishonesty.
The judiciary must also be fully independent. It should not take orders from politicians or powerful businesspeople. Judges must make decisions based only on the law, not on who made a phone call or who paid them money. This is the only way to protect democracy and the rights of all Zimbabweans.
The country is facing many problems. The economy is weak, corruption is rising, and people are struggling. But without a strong, honest, and qualified judiciary, there can be no justice, no peace, and no progress. The people of Zimbabwe deserve better. They deserve a judiciary that stands for truth, fights for justice, and protects the weak.
Let the clean-up begin now. Let us build a legal system we can all be proud of. One that works for the people—not for politicians, criminals, or the rich. Zimbabwe must choose justice over politics. The time is now.
